A skincare ingredient you really need to start including within your routine is honey. Being so much more than something you add to your porridge, it has massive skincare benefits for all skin types and can be found in an abundance of products. It has become somewhat popular and fashionable within the beauty industry over the past year and there’s good reason for it, it not only helps to brighten and repair the skin surface but it also helps to heal and repair the skin also. With its own blend of enzymes, humectants and free radical-fighting properties it’s something you really don’t your skin to be missing out on. So not only will it help to moisturise and re-hydrate the skin, it’s also great at fighting acne, calming stressed and problem skin, brightening the skin and keeping skin and lips soft and supple.
So I wanted to share with you a selection of my favourite honey based products, some of which I have had in my collection for a long time and some recent additions also:
The Body Shop Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask / £17.00 100ml
I picked this up only a couple of months ago and am already in love with it. It feels so luxurious when applied to the skin and leaves my face feeling super nourished, plumped and glowing. Developed using African healing and soothing rituals it contains Community Trade honey from Ethiopia, marula oil from Namibia and olive oil from Italy! It doesn’t contain any parabens, paraffin, silicone or mineral oil so is perfect for even the most sensitive of skins. I love how this mask makes my skin feel and really enjoy using it in the mornings for a quick skin boost before applying my skincare and makeup.
Elemental Herbology Vital Cleanse / £29.00 100ml
A purifying cleanser that doesn’t strip or leave the skin feeling tight and dry. Containing 10% Manuka honey, it really helps to keep my acne prone sensitive skin suitably cleansed and bright without feeling stripped. I love to use this in the morning when I can see my skin is visibly in need of some brightening and clearing. Also containing papaya extract it really helps to exfoliate the skin and remove any dead skin cells in a gentle and skin friendly way. If you’re looking for a gel based cleanser to help brighten and soothe the complexion then this is definitely for you!
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask / £24.99 75ml
Containing Manuka honey, this is aimed at giving moisture to the skin, to hydrate and heal any blemishes or dry patches. The consistency of this mask is pretty much like a gelish moisturiser that you just slather all over your face, leave for 10-15 minutes and rinse off. It’s not drying in the slightest so makes a lovely change to some of the masks that I use that give that all too familiar tight sensation. After using this my skin is always left feeling cleansed, moisturised and soothed; it really helps to calm my skin and any redness. It is also a great product to use as a target blemish treatment, literally just apply a cotton bud tip amount to a spot or blemish and leave overnight. It works like magic, my blemishes are dramatically reduced in the morning with near enough all of the redness and angriness taken out of them.
NUXE Reve de Miel Lip Balm / £9.50 15g
Anyone that knows me well knows of my love for lip balms. I am never without one and this particular Nuxe lip balm is definitely one of my all-time favourites. Containing honey, shea butter and grapefruit essence it makes you lips feel smoochably soft and sits wonderfully underneath lipstick. A must for the upcoming colder months!
And that’s my small capsule collection of products that I truly love and adore. I also have some more products on my list to pick up, including the Farmacy Honey Potion and Lotion and also the May Lindstrom Honey Mud Cleansing Silk.
