Throughout the entire year, regardless of what month we’re in I always keep a good hydrating serum or moisturiser within my skincare routine. Something that’s lightweight, breathable and absorbs quickly so can be layered and built up to really hydrate the skin and give that plumped up youthful look. I am a big believer in layering hydrating and anti-oxidant serums onto my face and will often not use an actual moisturiser but opt more for layered serums. So I wanted to share you my current favourites, some of which have been in my collection for a long time and others are newly recent additions, all of which are ranging in price to suit all budgets:The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid / £6.00 30ml
This is fantastic does it what it says on the tin, no frills hyaluronic acid serum. It’s a slightly thicker consistency than other serums but nevertheless is absorbed into the skin instantly and gives a slight tightening effect to the skin so is great for use under the eyes to really help smooth out any fine lines. I use this everyday morning and night within my skincare routine as the first step post-cleanse to give my skin that initial hydration boost. Un-scented, not tested on animals, no other nasties just good simple skincare that would suit all skin types. I would recommend everyone and anyone to add this into their routine and at £6.00 a bottle it won’t break the bank.
L’Oreal Hydra Genius Liquid Care / £9.99 70ml
An ultra-lightweight lotion that will hydrate the skin without any residue or greasiness, perfect for anyone with combination-oily skin that prefer lighter gel based lotions. One pump of this is plenty for the whole entire face, it spreads evenly over the skin and is instantly absorbed. I use this every morning as my daily moisturiser and will often use in the evenings as my nightime moisturiser also. It’s really hydrating, doesn’t leave residue behind and doesn’t break me out thanks to its super lightweight formula. It also contains aloe water which will help to soothe and calm the skin. A great all-rounder in my opinion, for anyone with severely dry skin I don’t think this would be hydrating enough but used as a serum before an intensive moisturiser it would work well. For those of us with combination or oily skin this is a great option as a daily moisturiser.
Vichy Mineral 89 Serum / £25.00 50ml
A new release from Vichy, this lightweight serum is based upon 89% Mineralising Thermal Water sourced from French volcanoes and is enriched with 15 rare minerals! Added to this is of course our favourite hyaluronic acid to help fortify the skins natural barrier. I really love this serum, again it’s another fantastic lightweight formula that is easily buildable with other serums or is just as fantastic when used alone as a serum step or as a moisturiser. It absorbs instantly and doesn’t leave any residue or tackiness behind. Ideal for all skin types, even sensitive as I can definitely vouch for this.
Like a hybrid between an essence and a serum, with an ultra-lightweight gel formula that absorbs instantly into the skin for a real hit of hydration. I like to use this after The Ordinary hyaluronic serum as another added step for longer lasting hydration. The results with this product I find are immediate as you can visibly see your face if plumped, glowing and generally healthy looking. I tend to use this more in the mornings because of the instant effect it gives to my skin ready for the day ahead and then I’ll use a more hydrating cream based serum for the evening.
Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum / £66.00 30ml
This serum is genuinely unlike anything else I own. It’s so intensely hydrating that for me it’s worth the price tag. It contains camellia micro-droplets which create little pockets of air giving the serum a weightless effect on the skin. It doesn’t contain any alcohol which is probably one of the reasons why I love it so much as it doesn’t dry the skin out. It’s lightweight and absorbs into the skin immediately giving a plumped effect. I will often use this as the last step in my layering or even just before makeup application to give a hydrated dewy base. If you have the budget and like to invest in your skincare then I would highly recommend this product, it’s a real game changer.
So they’re my top hydrating serums that I genuinely can’t get enough of at the moment. I’d love to hear if you have any recommendations!
