The Facial Oil Edit

The Facial Oil Edit

Oils I often think are a bit of a tricky one to get right. When being used by themselves, not with any other serum or layering products beforehand, are not generally that effective at moisturising the skin purely because they only tend to be absorbed by the top layer of the skin and therefore don’t hydrate the deeper layers which are often the dehydrated layers. Instead to get the benefits of an oil it should be used alongside hydrating ingredients and serums such as hyaluronic acid. When layered on top of hydrating serums and boosters the oil will act as a sealant to lock that moisture in meaning your skin will reap many more benefits. Often being packed full of antioxidants and fatty acids oils help to form a protective layer of the skins barrier to help repair and protect.

The Facial Oil Edit

So I wanted to introduce you to some of my most beloved and newly discovered oils that I have been enjoying using:

The Morning Oils

Sanctuary Wonder Oil Serum – £19.50 // Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil – £34.00 // Time Bomb Youth Juice Secret Oil – £42.00

For the morning’s I like to use something that is going to be deeply hydrating but sinks in fast. I have combination skin that often get a littler oily on the t-zone throughout the day so I don’t want an oil which will sit on the skin for too long and interfere with my makeup and the following three have definitely passed the test.

Sanctuary Wonder Oil Serum. A hybrid between a serum and oil, it has all the benefits of an oil but sinks in as fast as a serum so is ideal for morning use. It instantly makes my skin feel soft, smooth and plump and doesn’t leave any greasy or oily residue behind.

Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Treatment Oil is incredibly silky light. It’s a dry oil so sinks into the skin almost immediately and doesn’t leave any residue behind whatsoever. It’s super lightweight so doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy at all. This tends to be my everyday oil of choice, it gives great hydration and leaves my makeup looking fresh and dewy without any oiliness.

Time Bomb Youth Juice Secret Oil* works to mimic the skins natural sebum which reduces with age. Containing a combination of olive, kukui, avocado and jojoba oils sinks through the surface of the skin thanks to it’s breakthrough proprietary delivery system. And also with thanks to vitamins E and C this oils also helps to re-hydrate and soothe the skin. A great option for anyone moving into their late twenties, as this is when the natural sebum production starts to slow down. This is a really beautiful oil and if you have the budget then I would definitely say to pick this up, it would work for many different skin types and is just universal in the way it works.

The Bedtime Oils

The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil – £9.00 // Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate – £39.50 // Alex Carro Natural Balancing Face Oil – £59.00 // Nyasa Metamorphosis Revitalising Beauty Oil – £95.00

The Ordinary Rosehip Seed Oil is a pure blend of cold-pressed and organic rosehip oil being rich in vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. As an ingredient it’s renowned for its anti-inflammatory properties so really soothes and calms any redness or irritable blemishes and also helps to hydrate the dry and parched skin. I love to use this as my facial massage oil to really work it into the skin in the evening to help to soothe and calm any irritation whilst still hydrating and supporting the skin.

Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate is a really intensive evening treat for the skin. Made up of an aromatic blend of pure plant oils, including rosehip, neroli, lavender, chamomile and argan it really helps to rebalance the skin with an added benefit of vitamin E helping to soothe the skin. This has a very strong aromatherapy scent to it which is why I love it so much for the evening, it really helps me to drift off at bedtime to then awaken in the morning to plump, glowing and hydrated skin. This is a real powerhouse for me and one that I always turn to when in need of a real pick me up.

Alex Carro Natural Balancing Face Oil*. Containing a blend of rose, geranium and patchouli oils to help enhance natural beauty and Moroccan argan, evening primrose and Japanese rice bran oils to smooth and regenerate it’s got all bases covered. It doesn’t feel greasy or slick on the skin and is absorbed relatively immediately and doesn’t leave any residue behind. Being a great treatment oil for the evening due to its high natural potency, I love this oil for when my skin is feeling a bit reactive or sensitive as it really helps to calm and soothe.

Nyasa Metamorphosis Revitalising Beauty Oil*. This has to be probably one of my most favourite facial oils, containing a whole host of goodies to make the skin happy; Pure Swertiamarin a powerful plant extract that helps to promote celular rejuvenation to plump the skin that in turn helps to reduce any fine lines or wrinkles, turmeric extract and a list of essential oils as long as my arm: frankincense, jasmine, neroli, ylang ylang, palmarosa, linden, lavender, bergamot, clary sage, benzoin, chamomile and rose geranium. It’s like superfood for the skin. It’s a really light formula so is perfect for layering with other products and just makes my skin look the best it can be in the mornings after using this. It plumps, hydrates, reduces fine lines, injects glow, calms irritation and any redness and softens the skin also.

The Treatment Oils

INIKA Enriched & Pure Oils £20.00/£16.00 // Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate – £38.00

INIKA Pure Rosehip Oil* is a powerful antioxidant with many a fatty acid to help keep skin hydrated, balanced and plump. This is an ideal product to use on any irritation, scars or stretch marks being renowned for its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties for the skin to help treat damaged skin. INIKA Enriched Pure Rosehip Oil* is perfect for the use in prevention of fine lines and pigmentation. Containing a unique blend of natural Australian botanicals it helps to regenerate the skin aswell as treat fine lines, sun spots and redness. These oils can be applied all of the face as you would any normal facial oil but can also be used to pin point treatment any areas on the face or body of concern.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate*. I like to use this as more of a pin point treatment oil, but it also can be used as an all over facial oil. Containing all of the usual skin loving culprits it has resulted in a cult status among the beauty industry and is also Kiehls #1 best-selling product. I apply this to any breakouts or dry or flaky patches of skin in the evening and by morning they have noticeably improved.

The Breakout Tackling Oils

Peony Cosmetics Lagoon Drizzle – $45.00 // Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil – £85.00

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil, one of my favourites. Containing retinol (Vitamin A) it’s a fantastic anti-ageing product, helping to reduce pore size, fine lines and plump the skin along with blue tansy, an anti-inflammatory that encourages skin renewal and repair making it perfect for tackling any blemishes or breakouts. It combats dullness and helps to plump and revitalize the skin.

Peony Cosmetics Lagoon Drizzle*. I have to say Peony Cosmetics as a brand have really impressed me with their products, they are vegan and cruelty free and the products themselves are really quite superior and impressive when compared against others. This oil in particular is squalene based which has a much smaller molecular size when compared against something like coconut oil so doesn’t block the pores and skins into the skin much quicker, making it perfect for blemish prone skin. Also containing a potent blend of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids is aids the skins natural recovery process so not only does this oil help in prevention of break outs but it also helps them to recover quicker when one manages to work its way through.

The Booster

OM Cosmetics Revitalising Beauty Booster £32.50

So, as I mentioned at the start of this post oils are generally only at their most effective when used to trap in other hydrating products. This OM Cosmetics Revitalising Beauty Booster* is an ultra-concentrated water based fluid booster containing antioxidant-rich botanicals, Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, basically like a shot of hydration that can be added to any serum, moisturiser, oil or even straight onto dry clean skin. It’s a completely customisable booster to help supercharge the products that you’re already using within your routine. It’s a genius little product. I have mainly either been using this straight onto dry clean skin for an intense hydration kick or mixed in with my oil.

So there you have it. I hope you found this post useful and as always I would love to hear your recommendations!
