For a number of months now my skin has seemed to revert back to its’ teenager years, with cystic type spots and hormonal breakouts cropping up here, there and everywhere all over my face. At the start of the year I started looking into some facial treatment options that I could potentially try to hopefully start to gain a bit more control over my face when Skin Image Clinic got in touch. I have to say they had impeccable timing as I was just about to book a Microdermabrasion treatment at another clinic when they got in touch.
They very kindly invited me to visit their clinic in Manchester for a skincare treatment of my choice, and after much research and deliberation I opted for Microdermabrasion*. A less invasive treatment, great for kick starting the skin and helping to reduce any fine lines and spots/acne scarring.
So the day came, 16th June. I was really excited for the treatment as I had never had this done before and also just really excited for the benefits it could potentially make to my currently problematic skin.
On first initial impressions of the clinic, it was really easy to find, if any of you know Manchester it’s a stone’s throw from the Town Hall where they hold the annual Christmas markets. The clinic itself is really clean and professional yet super friendly. The girls working there make you feel really comfortable and welcomed. My therapist Holly, she’s only 18 and I was so impressed with the level of understanding and awareness she has in terms of skincare and the skin.
The actual treatment lasted around 45 minutes in total. Holly did a double cleanse to begin with to remove all makeup etc, then exfoliated the skin and after this applied a toner to prep the skin for the treatment. For the Microdermabrasion, a small pen like instrument is used. It has crystals around the outside rim which help to buff the dead skin cells away aswell as a suction tube that takes away the top layer of the skin. It doesn’t hurt in the slightest, if anything it feels really relaxing and nice, just like a regular facial massage with a good amount of pressure. After this, another layer of toner is applied to clean and soothe the skin, which is then followed with a mask. The mask feels really cooling and refreshing on the skin and they leave this on for a good 5-10 minutes. And lastly then apply a moisturiser.
There are a couple of aftercare notes to be aware of, you shouldn’t really apply another products for at least 24 hours after having the treatment and also try to refrain from wearing from makeup for the following couple of days after the treatment. Also don’t use any acids or retinols etc for a week after the treatment only because your skin is really sensitive following the treatment; and in all honesty you don’t need to use any resurfacing products after the treatment because this has already resurfaced your skin so there’s no point in using these products shortly after. And also, try to keep out of the sun for at least 48 hours after the treatment as it will be especially sensitive to this.
In terms of results, I am so impressed! I could instantly see a difference in the texture of my skin after the treatment, mainly those pesky under the skin bumps had either vanished or reduced massively. 24 hours after the treatment my skin was noticeably clearer, brighter, more even toned and generally just glowing and radiant – loads of people commented on how good my skin looked. And still 7 seven after the treatment (as I’m writing this blog post), my skin looks good as good as it did 24 hours after the treatment. I actually think I’m going to get a little bit addicted to this.
With regards to how often you can have the treatment. Depending on the results you want to achieve and your skin concern you can have the treatment every couple of weeks, this would be recommended if you have any fine lines/wrinkles or acne scarring etc that you dramatically want to reduce. Or if you just want to kick start your skin with a one off treatment this works great also if you have a special event coming up. I feel for me, I would like to go once a month, which will help to keep blemishes at bay or zap any that have cropped up in between treatments and help keep my keep even and radiant.
The treatment usually would cost £65.00 a time however the clinic are currently running a special offer of £35.00 for one treatment but even better, if you’re a follower of mine and advise of this upon booking you can get the treatment for a special price of £25.00! If you were thinking of having this done but weren’t quite sure then I would highly recommend it, it doesn’t hurt and only leaves your skin feeling a little sensitive for the first 24 hours after the treatment. And for £25.00 you really can’t go wrong, so now is chance to try it out. I will definitely be going back! Be sure to check their website out here.
