A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my Autumn morning routine so I wanted to also give you a insight into my evening routine. As I have always been a morning person when it’s comes to the evening and bedtime I like to start my routine as soon as I get in from work meaning I can jump straight into bed when I’m ready without then having to do my skincare.
I normally get in from work at around half 6 so at this point I’ll take my makeup off and do my skincare in between prepping and making dinner. My evening routine is pretty much all about the cosy feels so I’ll get changed out of my work clothes and into some cosy loungewear, at the moment I am loving Next for their pyjamas and loungewear, the materials they use are always super soft and cosy and are really bang on for my style taste. I’ve never been a massive lover of novelty pyjamas and loungewear, I much prefer to just have a selection of neutral colours, such as grey, navy and pink and Next do this just perfectly! So once I’m in my loungewear I’ll often apply a hair treatment or mask and shove my hair up into a pineapple, my current favourite is the Grow Gorgeous Back Into The Roots 10 Minute Stimulating Scalp Masque*. You just apply it directly onto dry hair and massage into the roots and scalp, it contains hyaluronic acid, caffeine, rosemary and menthol and feels so refreshing and soothing after a long day. I’ll leave this in whilst I’m going about my evening and then rinse out in the shower.
For my skincare, I like to really take my time with my skincare in the evenings and include a number of different steps – it’s a process that I really enjoy so I’ll make it last throughout my whole evening. Once I’ve got my hair mask on I take my makeup off. My current cleansing duo of choice includes the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm as my first cleanse, being a solid balm that turns into a luxurious oil when massaged into the skin it removes all traces of makeup an eye makeup, even waterproof mascara. And then as my second cleanse I am loving the Alpha-H Triple Action Cleanser, containing Aloe Vera and Tricoslan, this really helps to keep my complexion clear and blemish-free whilst still hydrated and balanced. It’s a beautiful light gel formula that is non-foaming so feels really gentle on the skin whilst still being super effective.
To exfoliate my skin I love the Alpha-H Liquid Gold, I often find manual exfolients a little too harsh on my skin so I use this 3-4 times a week to keep my skin bright and clear. After this I’ll spritz my skin with the Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist* to give a layer of hydration whilst I go and make dinner.
Once we’ve had dinner and cleaned up Nick and I will put a series on, at the moment we’re loving Blindspot and Bosch, I’ll light a candle or two and carry on with my skincare whilst watching an episode. My favourite candles at the moment are The White Company Autumn Candle and also the Aromatherapy Associates Relax Candle*, both of which have a beautiful deep base to them which fill the room with such a cosy and Autumnal feeling.
Now it’s time to take a shower. I’ll wash the mask out of my hair and shampoo with the Philip Kingsley Body Building Shampoo & Conditioner, this duo is perfect for my fine hair, it makes my hair feel super clean and bouncy, whilst still soft and voluminous. For my shower gel, I have countless shower gels, there’s a very real obsession starting to grow but my current favourite go to is this Pai Gentle Genius Camellia & Bergamot Body Wash*, it smells like a refreshing spa-like scent and feels so soothing on the skin. Containing Camellia oil which is packed full of Omega 9 and Vitamin E to really help soothe and moisturise the skin along with Magnolia Berry to help soothe the skin against any sensitivity or reaction. It comes in a set with a konjac sponge to create a silky lather, which also helps to gently exfoliate the skin. I like to moisturise every night and will often switch up my moisturiser depending on how I’m feeling that day but my current favourite is the Pai Comfrey & Calendula Calming Body Cream*. This feels so incredibly amazing on the skin! It has an almost whipped like formula that feels super light yet deeply hydrating. Containing Comfrey, a great skin-healer that really helps to target dry patches such as eczema or psoriasis, I suffer with psoriasis in certain areas all over my body and this has really helped to heal these and pretty much make them disappear! Also containing Calendula for it’s anti-inflammatory properties and Jasmine and Orange Peel Oils to give the cream it’s beautiful scent!
So after I’ve applied my body moisturiser I move on to my hair. I always like to use an oil in my hair so give moisture to the ends and add a little extra shine and for this I love the Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil, I use this on wet and dry hair to help against split ends and add a beautiful shine. I’ll spritz a bit of the Philip Kingsley Maximizer to add some volume and finish with the Lee Stafford Coco Loco Heat Protection Mist* for heat protection when I blow dry my hair. Then I’ll use my styling products in the morning.
I’ll often finish off my skincare in bed as I keep my mostly used and loved products on the bedside table for easy reaching. I’ve been trying to switch my routine up a bit lately, the products I was previously using at the time really made my skin look great but now we’re in Autumn and moving towards the colder weather I have changed things around slightly and introduced some more heavy duty products into the mix.
First up Peony Cosmetics Lagoon Drizzle*, a squalene based facial serum designed to replenish the skin, plump any fine lines and add a radiant glow to the skin. I use this as the first step to really sink into my skin. Then I have been loving the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair to give a hit of deep hydration followed by the Clarins Double Serum to give an extra layer of hydration and radiance. This really helps to just give that extra hit of nourishment for the colder months. Sometimes that will suffice and I’ll just follow up with my eye cream, the Aveda Tulasara Wedding Eye Masque, obviously I know this is a masque but I use it every night as my eye cream. My eyes get really dry throughout the whole year but even more so in the A/W months so this is a valued part of my routine. Then finally if I feel the need, I’ll finish up with the Farmacy Sleep Tight to seal everything in. This is a fab balm style moisturiser made from all natural ingredients that makes my skin so glowing and plump in the morning!
Lastly, I’ll spritz my pillow with a sleep spray, I’m currently loving the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray to help me drift off.
And that’s it. I know it sounds like a lot but really in practice there isn’t a massive amount compared to other routines I have seen and it helps to put me into a relaxed state of mind for bedtime.
